For once it is art that actually achieves
the popular ideal of raising your awareness of daily life
- Art Monthly
Club Class is a
performance experience that invites participants to explore the
unwritten rules that govern conduct in social life.
Participants choose to attend one of four
micro-classes led by experts, where they devise a personalised performance
transforming the way they look, feel or behave. The work then offers
a social arena in which to play out their performance.
Each version of the work reflects its site,
with the content of the micro-classes dependent on the type of social
occasion and nature of the social arena.
A subversive take on the cultural obsession with personal development
and the connections between art, performance and everyday life,
Club Class ultimately involves each particpant in the creation of
the art experience.
